I think my favorite question to date about my martial arts school came from a young woman who rather sheepishly asked, "Do they... yell?" Here was someone who was interested in taking up a healthy hobby ...

Energy Works Just a heads up to anyone who attends the pressure point self-defense class: We will not be holding class on Thursday night. This is probably not news to you but if you normally come Thursdays you'll probably want to show up tonight. For those who do not attend but may like to, come by 2753 Hungary Spring Rd at 8:30pm tonight and see what it's all about!

Energy Works New blog post discussing the safety of vital point striking. It's not only safe, but actually really good for you. Read why:
energyworksva.blogspot.com
I get the best looks from people when they find out I practice vital point striking. There's intrigue that comes with a certain skepticism, and the internal conflict that arrives with the mutually exclusive desires to ask, "Is it safe?" and to not sound like somebody's mother. ...

Energy Works Several new posts on the Sanchin Video Blog this morning. This is a project to explore not only the martial applications of a karate form, but also the meditative and healing aspects as well. This is the full form of Sanchin. This particular version of the kata comes from the Uechi Ryu school of karate. The form itself is simple (there are only about six movements that need to be learned to ...

Energy Works We're doing two more martial arts classes tonight. One is a study of structure and the other of technique. It's a workout for your body and your brain!

Energy Works Thanks to everyone who has joined us so far in our new school. Tonight's lesson is the start of a pressure point self-defense course. I personally was studying karate for over ten years before I had even seen these kinds of methods used. Over the years since this study has exposed me to some fantastic things and I hope... I can share a few of them with you. Check out the events page for the details!

Sanchin: Internal and External Hand
Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30pm
This course will use hands-on methods to teach you how to optimize body alignment and the body's most powerful muscle groups to give and receive massive "external" force. You can also gain an understanding of how to activate the body's electrical energetic structure to achieve powerful "internal" force, which can enhance not only your martial arts but your health as well.
Sanchin is a moving meditation, developed originally as a Buddhist exercise to maintain health and develop the spirit of Shaolin monks. The study of sanchin serves as the foundation to many forms of martial arts, as it is a study of the underlying structure of karate.
Naihanchi: Karate's Most Versatile Form
Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm
This course uses a simple set of exercises to teach an incredible array of self-defense techniques including methods of joint locking, grappling, and pressure point striking. Our innovative system of sensitivity and response drills developed from this form will keep you and your training partner moving while challenging you to learn and apply any number or combination of techniques. The results are real skill, developed quickly while having a lot of fun!
Pressure Point Self-Defense
Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30pm
This course is a study in how to completely and instantly disable an attacker through the use of pressure points. In Okinawa the art of pressure point striking is called Kyusho Jitsu, which roughly translates to mean "one second fighting." For those who are concerned with being able to defend against someone larger and stronger it doesn't get any better than this.
Our pressure point self-defense program starts with a study of the revival and restoration methods needed to understand and correct the effects of attacking the nervous system. From there you will develop the weapons and targeting skills necessary to control an attacker's movement and motor skill through specific nerves and reflex action, or just knock them unconscious with the right stimulus to the brain. This is a safer method than traditional martial arts that can damage the joints or tissue, and it allows for effective self-defense without causing any observable injury, a real legal concern these days.
Stop by tonight or anytime during one of our scheduled lessons wearing whatever is comfortable for working out and join us for a free trial, or schedule your own private free trial lesson for a more personalized introduction.

Energy Works
Pressure points in the martial arts have long been regarded with a great deal of mystique. Many teachers would claim that they either didn't work or were too dangerous to show to just anyone. Well, I'm guessing those teachers just didn't know them because not only are they safe to practice but they are a lot of fun! Th...ey're also the most effective form of self-defense that I have ever seen in over eighteen years of studying a number of martial arts. Now you can learn how to use them safely in order to keep yourself and your loved ones secure:

Energy Works Here's an example of a pressure point application at a recent class. It's not only "self" defense that you can learn by studying these methods but how to keep your loved ones safe as well. Notice how quickly the body weakens and bends. This is a reflexive response that, no matter how strong he is, he cannot control or resist!
